Course Outline
This is an introductory course in media studies, designed to help students broaden their understanding of the media landscape. This will be achieved through a multifaceted examination of the fundamental aspects of media study. -In this class, both lectures and exams will be conducted non-face-to-face. -Absolute evaluation. -Real-time online lecture. -Midterm (week-8) and final (week-15) exams are take home exams (MS Office, 2000-2500 Words, 12 Font, Times New Roman, Double Space). -Midterm exam (45%) + Final Exam (45%) + Participation and Attendance (10%) = 100% -If you do not submit the midterm and final exams, you cannot pass the course.

Course Objective
This course aims to equip students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills to critically appraise media issues. Students will study essential elements of media science, history, function, theory, environment, and future considerations. Throughout this course, heavy emphasis will be placed on engaging students to think critically about and effectively interpret how media functions and its effects on society.

Since the beginning of 2020, COVID-19 has had a serious impact on students' studies and life. You all probably had a lot of difficulties and confusion last semester. This course has been taught online for the entire 15 weeks without even missing an hour despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic. Regardless of the challenges spurred by COVID-19, I promise you all that this course will best fulfil your studies during the fall semester of 2020. For the safety of the students given the current uncertainty of the COVID-19 situation, I plan to proceed with online real-time lectures in the fall semester. However, if or when things get better and safer, lectures will move to the actual classroom.

The evaluation methods for the fall semester in 2020 are divided into three categories: midterm exam (Week-8, 45%), final exam (Week-15, 45%), and real-time lecture participation (10%). Your midterm and final exams are ¡®Take home¡¯ exams. I will tell you about the essay topic two weeks before the midterm and final exams. You are required to complete and submit the assignment in two weeks. Lastly, the real-time lecture participation rate of students is 10%. If the student's participation in the lecture is below 70%, they will not pass.
